I didn't include the HDHomeRun in the list because we didn't have one to test it on. While the effort is commendable, I have to question whether the market needs another HD viewer. And that too 'only' an HD viewer. I'm sure your reasons were sound and you wanted to create an 'easy' viewer only, but then again, if the target market is the HTPC user, almost ALL HTPC users want more, and they are rarely scared of tackling some advanced stuff, if need be. I wish you good luck, and hope it turns out to be a success. Hi there Decided to try out Easy HDTV with a new KWorld ATSC 120 PCI tuner since I was having problems with the packaged software (ArcSoft TotalMedia3) and a popular 'free' HDTV app.
Downloading and installation were quick and simple. On first startup, the Setup menu comes up, which allows you to select the tuner device (hinting that more than 1 tuner can be used), the video decoder, the audio decoder and the video renderer (!!!). All selections are by pull down menus, and no typing is needed. This Setup menu can also be called up while the program is running, and you can (with some success) change decoders or renderer on the fly. Configuration is almost too easy, since there was no prompting for channel scanning. Easy HDTV started up with channel 5.1, and changing channels seemed unresponsive. Finally figured out that the right mouse button brought up a menu.
The automatic scan only found about a dozen of the 40+ digital channels that I can receive. After selecting the 'slow scan' then all the channels were found (at a reported 100% signal level). Deselecting channels was then accomplished by just unchecking the channel number.
If you just want to watch HDTV without any kind of recording capabilities, then this app will suffice. The on-screen display for channel number, program info, etc is rather big, obnoxious and persists for almost 10 seconds. There are a few minor issues when resizing or maximizing the window. If I had to pay for this product I'd expect a bit more polish and features.
We're working on adding clear QAM support to Easy HDTV, but don't have access to digital cable in our area. Here's the QAM beta.link removed. if anyone would like to test it and let us know the results. This may not work at all, but if it does we think it will work with these cards: ATI TV Wonder 650 AverTV Combo PCIe (M780) AVerTVHD MCE A180 Dvico fusion 5 gold Hauppage WinTV HVR 1600 We think it will not work with these cards: HDHomerun On Air GT From the channels dialog select cable mapping and the appropriate modulation type for your cable system. It was probably working from the time you added OTA support for the HDHomeRun but I missed your post about that. Remapping and reencaplulating channels wouldn't be necessary with the changes we've made. It's the setting of the modulation type to QAM or VSB we didn't think would work. If the HDHomeRun can automatically detect the modulation type then Easy HDTV should work with the HDHomeRun without the remapping. Unfortunately, the BDA filters for the HDHR only accepts 8VSB tune requests of channels 2-69. The filters then check the remapping file to see if it should tune QAM instead as well as the channel/frequency. So channels will have to be remapped. Have not tried an antenna. CarolinaGuy Thanks for trying. Do you get any QAM channels using the software that comes with the HVR1600? Do you know which version of the card you have? If the label on your board has the number 74021 or 74041 it's QAM capable, numbers 74031 or 74551 are not. I'd be willing to try it out this weekend on my Fusion USB tuner. Comcast just unscrambled a bunch of their QAM channels.

My hangup right now with the Fusion SW is not being able to rename the channels in the Favorites list ('hey dad, which one is A&E again?' That and the fact that it freezes up whenever MCE tries to background record off the analog tuner card (NVidia DualTV). Any conflicts between EasyHD and the Fusion App that might cause problems if I need to revert back to the Fusion front-end? Bob System - Athlon 64 Dual Core 5600, 2GB RAM, 7600GT, XP Pro.
